Armbay and Doutee Zakaria are the owners and operators of Nawal, a Syrian/Circassian pop-up based in Los Angeles. Millworkers by trade, the brothers began selling their mom's recipes out of their house in 2022 at the base of Dodger Stadium in a small community known as Solano Canyon. Nawal (named after their mother) is described by the brothers as Syrian/Mom's versions of Egyptian originals through a Circassian lens. As first-generation Americans who descend from the North Caucasus by way of the Syrian Golan Heights, the brothers work to maintain a culinary tradition from places of displacement. @nawal_losangeles
