Khir Johari

Food Ethnographer, Author and Founder, SERUMPUN (Singapore)

Khir Johari is a Singaporean food ethnographer whose work places Singapore’s food culture within the wider history of the Malay Archipelago and maritime Southeast Asia. He is the author of 'The Food of the Singapore Malays: Gastronomic Travels Through the Archipelago', which was named Singapore’s Book of the Year, received the National University of Singapore History Prize, and was selected by Gourmand founder and president Edouard Cointreau as the recipient of the Best of All award, recognizing it as the single most significant food culture book in the thirty year history of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. He is also the founder of SERUMPUN, an annual gathering that brings together chefs, scholars, artisans, and cultural practitioners to explore the shared culinary inheritance of maritime Southeast Asia.
